The Redhead Days
I was looking through my old hard drive today and I came across a file I meant to share ages ago, but in the hustle of finishing the film last year I some how forgot.
While editing the film, I had to make many difficult decisions. Thankfully Ben was there to help me out with an objective view point. Towards the end of the edit, on what was my last day with Ben, he said “There’s one other thing.” He wanted to delete a specific sequence from the film. It turned out that he’d known it needed to go for some time but he held off on telling me until the last possible moment because he knew I wouldn’t want to lose it.
The sequence comes from the film’s third act, at The Redhead Days. It’s only two and half minutes, and it’s basically two cute scenes, but Ben’s point was that it didn’t provide any character development. And in the end I agreed with him. I’d already established what the Redhead Days was, but we’d lost the actual story line of the film and we needed to get back to it as soon as possible. So we made the cut. And I think the film is better for not having it, but I still think it’s a cute moment. With the Redhead Days coming up next, I figure now is a good time to share a small taste of what goes on when you get together with thousands of other redheads.
I’ll be returning to The Redhead Days next week, and I’m looking forward to seeing a few of the people featured below, including Emma and Lizzie from Ginger Parrot.
